Three Favorite Wearables from CES

The Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas happened last week and brought with it the announcement of a slew of cool wearables. Here are three I loved based on design, innovation, and overall value for users.

1. LG LifeBand Touch: A fitness band that not only tracks fitness metrics but also gives users instant feedback on a small touch screen. It also ties to your smart phone to provide notifications and lets you control music. The device comes in a unique, bracelet-like form that LG says lets users feel like they never need to take it off.  Some say that the comfort of the band is “similar to the Jawbone UP.” Others say, “it is like a Nike-fuel band which has an opening.” I am not sure what it would actually feel like on my wrist, but it sounds pretty comfortable to exercise with.

2. FiLIP: A first wearable for children between ages 5 and 11. It uses GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell tower location to let parents know where their kids are. Two-way calls and direct messages are available for the users. The price is currently listed as $199.99 and for $10 a month, parents and children can be connected using service from AT&T.

3. June Bracelet: A smart and elegant bracelet that monitors harmful UV rays and tracks daily habits to advise users on how to keep their skin healthy and beautiful. This will likely appeal more to women than men, as women may be more conscious of skin damage from sun exposure than men. Also the jewel on the center provides a nice feminine touch.  It’s certainly nice to see wearables starting to get fashion-conscious. I would also like to see a different design that geared towards men.

I would love to hear your thoughts on wearable technologies and how they are slowly starting to become a part of our everyday lives.
