The Weekly Echo 12/9

Just a handful of quick links as we slide into the weekend ... We haven't yet gotten our hands on the Kindle Fire, but Jakob Nielsen has — and he was unimpressed with the device's usability. It's an interesting take with some points to consider about designing for a particular form. What would need to happen for designers to create content specifically for a 7" tablet, rather than blowing up mobile sites or squishing full-web versions? We've mulled Siri as tech fantasy before, and now Gizmodo's Mat Honan is finding that the reality of Siri can't stand up to the vision. "Instead of an intelligent assistant," he writes, "I found a lie, and worse, a broken promise." Ouch. What would Siri say in her defense? And finally: Ever try to picture NPR personalities based on their voices alone? This artist has — and his renderings are hilarious (if for no other reason, it's worth the click for Garrison Keillor). Consider this our official request for a part 3 with Sylvia Poggioli.
