A Sweeter Apple

A reaction .gif recap to Apple's Press Conference WWDC 2014

I have a love/hate relationship with Apple. Well, mostly love now, but for a while it was hit or miss. So, every time the company announces new products or designs, as they did at WWDC this month, I get a bit nervous about what they might release.
Luckily, Apple didn’t disappoint. Between the third-party keyboard additions and the new programming language, I was (mostly) blown away. Let’s dive into the nitty-gritty, shall we:

1. Overall Design Update

iOS X Yosemite’s design is even more translucent and “flatter” than ever. Definitely still on this Apple bandwagon.
IMHO — nothing surprising or game-changing. But still, Apple knows how to make things effortlessly pretty. Apple is totally that hot person that catches you looking them at a bar and is all…

...and then you’re like...

2. More Connectivity Between Mac and iOS

Apple continues to connect all of its devices, almost seamlessly. I thought being able to text from my computer was cool. With this update I can start a task on my iPhone and finish it on my Mac. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing...
Scratch that.  I’m really like...OOH! Yes, finally! Thanks, Apple. You always know how to further enable my “I need access to the internet all the time” lifestyle.

3. iOS8 HealthKit

This is actually pretty sweet. The visual design makes personal health look sexy and totally takes advantage of the fitness and health related wearables trend but from a different approach and in a very smart way.
Bravo, Apple. Yet again producing something that just makes sense and solves for a need you didn’t realize you had. Also, if (...I mean when) this is widely spread by doctors, you’re never going to have to worry about keeping medical records again. Count me in!

4. iOS8 Keyboard Updates

This announcement was pretty nifty and I’m sure more so if you’re a developer. Apple is finally being more “open," starting by supporting third-party keyboards. Didn’t see that one coming. Another part of the update is improved auto-correct technology. It actually can learn the language you use in different apps and when messaging different contacts. Now my slang vocabulary used with my friends won’t pop up when writing work emails...finally!
I’m impressed by the slicker-than-grease app icon design. Very tricksy, Apple…borrowing functionality from the competition (Android) and repackaging it in your own beautiful, elegant way. Tricksy little hobbitses…

… And then Apple is all like…

And there you have it. A surprisingly awesome update from Apple. Keep it up, guys. It seems like you know what you’re doing.
